Event Description: The training and reorganization of courses are intended for faculty already using Blackboard and have the following important purposes:
- Support Student Success – Research has shown that creating fewer variables in the navigation of a course using a Learning Management System (LMS) leads to less student anxiety and higher learning.
- Support Faculty Success – Creating fewer questions from students on where to find content, due dates etc., allows faculty to concentrate more on teaching and learning.
- Minimize Faculty Time – Creating simpler layouts and navigation structure allows faculty to spend less time updating their course(s) semester to semester.
- Prepare Faculty for a move to an upgraded Blackboard or new LMS – All LMS platforms are moving in the direction of simplified layouts and course menus, using content folders and making courses “responsive” in a mobile environment.
The half-day course reorganization training will review exemplary course design principles along with special attention to the Open SUNY Course Quality Review (OSCQR) Course Design Review checklist. A "Grade Center" course will follow at a later date.
