Enter your correct college or university EMAIL address
when registering. You cannot register with a personal email address, and if you use some other institutional ID you will not receive confirmations or updates.
If you have not yet been assigned a college email address because your contract has not been completed, please email the contact person listed on the class description for information on how to register.

Introduction to Kaltura Personal Capture Recorder and Linking Kaltura Media in Blackboard

Event Description:
Kaltura is a media management platform for storing, publishing, and streaming videos and other media. Both faculty and students have the ability to create and upload media created with Kaltura tools. Kaltura is integrated with Blackboard. 

To create content, Kaltura has a new tool called "Personal Capture." Personal Capture is a desktop recording and capture tool that provides users with the ability to capture both screen and webcam (making it really easy to create "picture in picture" videos). It also includes an automatic slide detection feature, so if you have a PowerPoint presentation in "slide show" mode while recording the screen, Personal Capture automatically detects and captures it, making your videos searchable by keywords of text included in the slides. Kaltura also automatically captures metadata from slides and audio, which are made immediately searchable as well.

Whether you use Personal Capture to create your videos, or create them in some other way, Kaltura is completely integrated with Blackboard. It is easy to upload videos to your Kaltura My Media repository, and then provide links in various ways within your Blackboard courses. You can also add interactive quizzes into your Kaltura videos, edit and "chunk" uploaded content into separate videos, and easily add "automatic speech recognition" captions that can then be reviewed and edited. 

In this session, we'll quickly review the process of creating a video with Personal Capture, uploading the video to My Media, requesting and editing "automatic speech recognition" captions, and the we'll also look at the three different options to link media from Kaltura into a Blackboard course.
